Thirteen Spanish candidacies choose to first stage at national level of the Access City Award, the first European award that awards to the best accessible cities, and that it grants the Commission European. The candidates are: Avila, Barcelona, Burgos, Elche, Gij'on, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Pamplona, Sabadell, San Sebastián, Santander, Terrasa and Vigo. The Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Discapacidad (CERMI) is the organ in charge to select three of these thirteen candidacies, that the Spanish jury will be in charge to elevate to a contest of European scope to compete with the other cities. The European Commission looks for to recognize with this distinction the European localities that start up the most effective, innovating and sustainable measures to improve the accessibility and the total integration of the people with incapacity.
