At the moment, there are more than 35,000 students majors studying in the Spanish universities prepared to acquire new knowledge and to continue growing like people. It is the case of Mariano Baró and Carmen Esteban, a marriage of Murcia that after reaching their retirement a year ago decided to register itself in the Senior Classroom of the University. “It has been a wonderful experience and, from the first day, the motivation has increased. The professors are excellent and the very pleasant and productive classes. In short, it has been a full course, in all the senses. We have found a footpath to walk in the next years�, counts Mariano. Then, testimonies as the one of this pair demonstrates that the permanent learning improves the quality of life of the people majors in three lines: the one of its own self-esteem, the one of its autonomy and the one of its capacity to act and to enjoy the life.

“According to the results of the last surveys realized in the courses of students of majors of all Spain, a generalized satisfaction exists and positive on the teaching staff and the design of the Programs in Spain, which is a breath to continue working�, it explains Bru Shell, AEPUM president. And it is that, as they maintain from the State Association of University Programs for Majors, the cultural and educative function of the universities must consider, on the part of the Public Administrations and the civil society, like “a top priority in the attainment of a greater social justice, a greater educative fairness and one better quality of life (participation, property, support and personal satisfaction)�. In addition, the University Programs for Majors “offer an enriching intergenerational context�, adds Carmen Palmero, secretary of AEPUM.
On the other hand, the majors, that grow every year more in number and cultural level, demand the same rights and duties that the rest of university students - of moment students of “second order� are only considered -, besides the homogenization of the PUM so that they can be accredited or be confirmed and the extension of the legislation on the access to the University for majors of 50 years. Nevertheless, and in spite of these vindications, the University Programs for Majors increase and they are distributed already in more than 50 public and deprived universities, distributed by all the national territory, which indicates the interest and the restlessness of the people majors to continue learning, and past the cultural revolution that supposes to again go to class the 50. “Our future appears very rewarding and stimulating. We animate to the new pensioners or preretired to register itself in a University to continue in active-duty. The benefits are enormous�, indicates Carmen.

Ways to live

Evilasio González knew the Program Interuniversity the Experience of Castile and Leon while it listened to the radio way of house in the car. They were days in which one was negotiating its preretirement, so the idea to register itself in the University of its city, Burgos, seemed to him a good way to confront the challenge to follow assets. Today, after three years, he is already a graduated student, although Evilasio wants to continue forming and points more stop: “The next course I have predicted to register me in some of the subjects of normal races that the University offers to us and that they connect with my interests. Until now, I have attended classes of Communication, Psychology, Right, Music, Medicine, Archeology, cinema, History of the Art, Economy, Computer science, Photography, Literature…�.
 
In the case of Doroteo Go'mez, student graduated and president as the Association of Students and Ex- Alumnos of the Interuniversity Program of the Experience of the University of Burgos, in his it soothes in Burgos, were its children who advised to him that he scored. “They were sure that was going I to like and have right�, affirms Doroteo. Also, it assures that “besides extending knowledge in different fields, is very interesting the comradeship that even reigns between that we attended the Program, transmitting that atmosphere with the teaching staff. For that reason, intention to everybody to that the PUM inquire on that is in its city, because from the minute one is going to be enchanted of being able to participate and to extend their studies and friendships, as well as to share experiences with people of different ages�, concludes.
